Christian Dalits are not allowed to sing in churches. They are even buried in separate graves are not allowed to move out of their caste even if they convert. This is a clear sign of caste based discrimination as is practised in many parts of India. This so-called “tradition” exists despite the fact that it is prohibited in India under Article 15 of Indian Constitution which prohibits discrimination on grounds of caste .Yet 69 years post attaining Independence, the practice still reigns in far too many parts of the country.This is a shocking proof to the fact that caste barriers in India are still alive and strong. Government of India recognizes Untouchability as an exclusively Hindu- Sikh phenomenon. But in reality, Untouchability knows no religion. For a 'traditional' atrocity, it is remarkably secular. |
